My other blogs

A friend reminded me that I had not been blogging recently. Well, perhaps I have not added any entries to this blog in recent months but I have written elsewhere. So I thought I'd post an entry that points to some of my other blogs.

Most of my blogging is done on my Yahoo! 360 profile page.

On my holodigm website I used a blog for the main page just to demonstrate how one might create a website using only blogging. I like to experiment with technology and that does tend to lead to projects that appear to be half-done. Actually the experiment was completed and I learned what I needed to learn from it.

That's it for now.

The New Blogger

Technology does not stand still. I haven't used Blogger in a while and now it is part of Google. I want to see how this shows up now.

Wither the Web?

The web technologies continue to change and improve. With the advent of Cascading Style Sheets (CSS), more artistic web pages can be created. There is a wonderful web site that demonstrates the power of this technology: css Zen Garden.

As wonderful as this technology is, it makes it even more difficult for the average user with a web site to publish pages that utilize the benefits of Cascading Style Sheets. The learning curve is steep and not all browsers implement the standard properly. I do notice that the blogging sites, such as blogger.com and blog.com, make use of style sheets for postings and the main blog. Perhaps, here is where css will demonstrate its value: in supporting tools that can automate the creation of web sites.

The automation tools will publish the web pages using standard css tags. A site designer can create a custom look for the site by crafting cascading style sheets and images for the customer. The automation tool can be utilized by many different web site owners to update and create the web pages. The owner would contract with a graphics designer for the unique look via a custom css file set. This custom css file set would be a one-time setup, until the site owner wishes to change the look of the site.

Post with a picture

I've been playing around with other blogging tools. I found that it is possible to embed a photo using blog.com, but it requires knowing html tags and how to find the real location of a photograph within a blog.com photo album.

I notice that blogger.com has the ability to embed photos directly. Here is another picture of me.

Who I am

I have been involved in software development since 1979. I spent 18 years working for an instrumentation company developing software for their infrared spectrometers. I wrote software for data acquisition, signal averaging, Fourier Transforms, quantitative analysis and the graphical display of this data.

I also created this company's first internal web site for posting documentation and procedures. It was my intention to make information easily accessible within the company so that each individual would better be able to do his or her job.

In addition to a B.S. degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison; I also have B.A. degree in Communication Arts (Radio, TV News and Public Affairs emphasis) from California State University, Fullerton.
